Well, like some of the others on this forum, it's time to go hunt for a new job.

Without getting bogged down, I had a great career going until a few years ago. Then I got caught between a rock and a hard place, and it all evaporated.

I did land on my feet, in a manner of speaking, with my current job, and it has kept me going these last several years. Barely, but it has.

The owner wants to retire. The others in the business may or may not be able to carry on. So it is time for me to leave.

Due to the repercussions of what happened previously, it is not too much of an exaggeration to say that as far as desk jobs go, I am educated, skilled and experienced enough to do almost anything, but disqualified from doing a bunch of things.

So I need help finding that one employer who will see what I can do, but isn't going to automatically preclude me due to the prior circumstance.

I'm not looking to get rich or make a world-famous mark in whatever I get. I'd just like to support my family and keep living in the respectible home and neighborhood I'm fortunate enough to already have.

Thanks.

iiipopes,

I'm praying for you that a new job will become available for you. This is a tough time for job switching.

Is your present job covered by Unemployment Compensation? If so, should you quit as opposed to being fired as it may add complications to receiving timely Unemployment Compensation. The new owner may need you, like your work and retain your services. If not, better to let the new owner terminate you. Then you would have to be looking for work anyway as required by Unemployment Compensation guidelines.

If a new job is found, you will probably face a "90 day" probationary period where you could be terminated for cause or without cause for minor problems or unsuspected illness.

There is no guarantee that should you take a new job that the employer may downsize by letting new workers go.

Yet, this may a good time to use the skills you have learned through experience for another employer unless you have signed a "no competition' clause protecting your previous employer.

God bless you!

Lloyd

Lloyd, thank you for your observations. Your observations are ironic as my current job is as a paralegal for my uncle's lawfirm. My uncle's career has been management or company side labor law for forty-five years. He simply wants to retire, and since he has always been the primary attorney, and the others basically doing everything else for the company clients and their staff my uncle has brought in through the years, I'm not sure the remaining lawyers have a broad enough client base or have taken the time or even have the ability to hone their client development and retention skills in their respective areas of practice to keep the firm going. So I have to go, regardless. If it turns out to be "Out of the frying pan and into the fire," well, that is the risk I have to take, because, to quote the famous bartender line, "You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here."

Oh, yeah -- and I've had to apply for and collect unemployment two times before, including once while my wife was expecting our son all those years ago. Employment security benefits in this state suck hind tit.

During that particular hiatus, I got my wife involved. She is an excellent artist. Her favorite flowers are lillies. So I had her paint the prettiest picture of lillies in her style that she could, which she had a lot of time to do then. The I had her add in calligraphy at the bottom Matthew 6:28-33, and had it framed and hung by the entrance hallway. Even though we've moved since then, it still hangs near the entrance hallway so it is one of the last things to be seen as a person leaves the house, and one of the first to be seen when a person enters the house.

Thanks again to everyone. I burned a little plastic today making sure my car was in top notch mechanical shape so it would keep me mobile as necessary, and the process of redrafting the resume, hunting for leads, getting the interview suit out of mothballs, etc., is all mobilizing, as all the faith is for naught if a person doen't get off his or her backside and get on with it, as we are taught in James 2:14-26.

iiipopes,

I believe employment security benefits aren't too great in my home state of Indiana either.

Praying that you will have a successful job search.

Blessings,

Lloyd

Well, wish me luck -- Friday @ 2:30 CST I have a job interview. If my personal situation doesn't automatically disqualify me, then I have a 50/50 chance of getting the job.

Thanks.

The interview went well today. I am optomistic. In the meantime, I will hunt for other leads for interviews. Thanks again for all your prayers and support.

186, indeed! Today I sent an email to the HR director asking about the status of my application. In the meantime, the local business journal listed the company as one of the best places to work, so I also included congratulations to the company for being included on the list.

IMMEDIATELY, and I mean less than two minutes after I sent my email, the HR director replied, said he had to conduct obligatory interviews for those in-house applying for the job, and asked to get back in touch with me at the end of the week.

So, I'm still in the running; this email effectively being my 2nd interview, and my family and I all have high hopes.

Thanks again for your continuing support. Please read my new thread about my son's new Boy Scout Troop.

So far, the answer is, "Not yet."

The particular job I applied for was filled internally. But, the HR director said some new jobs were opening up the first of the year that I might actually be more qualified for. So I'll check back January 2nd, the first work day of the new year, and keep looking in the meantime.

Thanks again for all your support. Happy Thanksgiving!
